Inside the beltway gossip about new secretary of education

Here is a piece from the insider rag Politico on the speculation surrounding new cabinet appointments. To the interested reader here, the USDE nominations are mentioning Rhee as a possibility. Talk about something completely tone deaf and asinine. I have not heard anything else, but I’m not an insider. But I have to say, if you are an insider, what are you doing? How can something like this happen? You can’t justify the appointment of Rhee, carpetbagger in chief. There is no justification.

  1. I think that this is the opinion of the author of the article. It is only mentioned briefly way at the end. I suspect he just made it up without any evidence.

“Labor isn’t seen as a department that’s likely to face a change soon, nor is Education, where Arne Duncan is clearly enjoying his job and can focus on the policy issues he loves while keeping his spot in Obama’s regular pick-up basketball games. If he does go, former D.C. schools chief Michelle Rhee and Gov. Jack Markell are two possible contenders.”

  2. Isabella Keegan says:

If Obama appoints Rhee as Sect’y of Education, it would seem like an all-out declaration of war against public education. Would there be an opposing call to arms from teacher unions and the membership? I doubt it. Instead, there would be immediate collaboration from Aft and NEA and continued funding of Obama. Teachers would have to protest against Obama and their own union leadership!
