Man, we kicked ass this weekend. In about ten hours of studio time, we have seven hours of new content coming your way in the next several weeks. We interviewed Jonathan Kozol, CTU President Karen Lewis, Nancy Carlsson-Paige, author and scholar Kevin Kumashiro, scholar and author and web-guru of Yinzercation Jessie Ramey, and new student voice and phenom Nikhil Goyal.
We’ll let you know when they’re available.

It’s great that you interviewed Nikhil Goyal, whose call for a revolution that transforms schools for the 21st century is a testimony to the brilliance of U.S. students and the tragedy of dumbing down our schools. His call for thinking, creating and exploring in school– instead of “drill, kill and bubble-fill”–could lead a peaceful revolution.
Students and their teachers, who should indeed be given autonomy and treated like professionals, know how to lead this revolution. It is up to all citizens of our democracy, and their elected representatives, to stand beside students and teachers as they sweep the profiteering test and test prep companies out of all schools. More educationally successful countries like Finland have already done this.
Nationally we need leadership that both understands this imperative and fully funds our public schools. What we do not need is more funding for charter and cyber schools, which further strips away public school funds. Thank you, Nikhil, for leading this peaceful revolution to support the creativity and motivation of students so they can be “captains of their own learning.”
