Text of NBI 85 from #NEARA2012, voted down mere minutes after I left today

Here’s the full text of the item. Very interesting; I thank Christal from CA for doing this. One question, why would this cost $56,000? Is there a way maybe to eliminate the cost and perhaps it could have a chance at passing? I’d like to know what the potential costs are. Anyone?

NEW BUSINESS ITEM 85

The NEA shall publicize in the NEA Today the states which have “opt out” provisions and highlight stories of educator parents or guardians who have made this decision for their families.
Rationale/Background

Many parents and guardians do not know if their state provides them the legal right to opt out of high stakes standardized tests. As more parents and guardians make this decision for their children, it is critical that they are provided with legal options for the state they live in. By highlighting where this is allowed in the U.S. and stories of educators who have made this decision.

Cost Implications

This NBI can be accomplished at an additional cost of $56,005.

Emphasis mine. You know, I’d be willing to do it personally for a mere fraction of the cost. If I’m in a good enough mood, I’ll do it for free. Just saying.

  1. I’m going to have a post up on my blog as soon as possible about this NBI. The arguments I heard in opposition to this NBI left me confounded.
