Rouge Forum Exclusive: Special staged preview performance: /Know//the//Teacher//Left//Behind/
By William R. Boyer Detroit area educator, playwright and performer.
This timely new monologue reveals the profound struggles surrounding an aging, urban radical—teacher and his inevitable collision with humorously tragic institutional mismanagement so prevalent in our No Child Left Behind era of errors. Mr. Boyer’s true—life portrayals of working at a “failing school,”dramatically recreate unusual lives—and losses—unavoidable in such an alternatingly comical and somber environment. White tracing the history of the history—making the divide between the (almost all-white white) suburbs and the largely abandoned (mostly black) city of Detroit, Mr. Boyer’s Know the Teacher Left Behind suggests real solutions for all dead-end tyranny of state-sponsored factory schooling.
