Over my dead body: evaluating #teacher #preparation using #VAM

The Answer Sheet reports on the potential use of test scores and value added models to evaluate college teacher preparation programs. Two things. One, how do you account for folks who attend multiple institutions, transfer, and so forth? Two, what about those TFA folks who go through a five week workshop? Can we evaluate them in a similar fashion, or will they be exempt?

As a teacher educator, over my dead body this will happen. And if it does, well, then I think the profession is going to lose a lot of faculty.

Why don’t lawmakers who advocate VAM show some leadership and show the world how VAM works by employing VAM metrics on themselves & other lawmakers. VAM variables would include real estate prices, unemployment, grad rates, tuition costs, classroom size

I think that’s an excellent idea. I’ve always thought about doctors. What if we evaluated doctors on the health added outcomes over time?
