So I guess a test boycott may actually happen. I was in central PA a couple of weeks ago to speak on a panel after a screening of Race to Nowhere. Many in attendance and on the panel were absolutely serious about a test boycott. I have no knowledge of the PA test, or the PSSA. If it’s similar to the MSA in MD, then I sympathize. There were several people at the event who indicated that they were going to opt their kids out. The real potential of a boycott is a lot of parents coming aboard. In PA, it may happen and I’m curious to see how it turns out.

One thing that frightens me is that there are some teachers who are still doing test-related teaching AFTER the test is over. What the hell?
An update about how it’s going. Although we’ve had more parents join us, most of the kids at the school are still taking the tests. On day two of testing the strain is showing. Some teachers are almost in tears about what this is doing to their students.
The kids who aren’t taking the tests, on the other hand, are having a lovely time this week, working individually with teachers and doing some great hands-on learning projects. What a contrast! The fact that there is no homework this week is even better. This is what school should be like.
