I was invited to do a webinar for the CAAPA Children’s Foundation about the lack of male teachers and caregivers this coming Thursday. I’ve never done a webinar before, not too worried, but I thought I would attach the Powerpoint presentation I created for it. I’ll report how it goes.

Thanks for sharing your presentation. I was glad to see the slide showing 4th grade test scores. The most successful students I have taught have always seemed to be equally divided boy-girl and racially, but the struggling students (lowest performing) are predominantly from the same subgroup, and in my experience are made up of more girls than boys.
All children need men in their lives. I’m at an inner city school. When I taught HS, we had a pretty good mix of men and women. When I moved to 5th grade, there were a couple of men tutors and the custodians. Very sad.
No problem, thanks for commenting. I do agree that children need men in their lives, as they need all adults to be caring and supportive. Regarding the men, we need to make sure that the men in their lives, those that we can credential and “certify,” so to speak, in classroom or elsewhere do not encourage destructive stereotypes or hold children to restrictive gender norms. I would rather have a school promote multiple identities than have men who limit children’s experiences.
